Zebrafish Summer Institute
The Zebrafish Summer Institute (ZSI) offered by Dr. Vinita Hajeri is a unique professional development opportunity for secondary science educators. During a weeklong workshop, teachers learn how to use zebrafish (a small, freshwater fish commonly found in pet shops) to engage their students in authentic, real-world scientific investigations.
The ZSI empowers teachers to excite students about scientific inquiry, and to help them understand the connections between science and the world they live in. Workshop participants explore how to use zebrafish in their classrooms to teach students about concepts like the stages of growth and development, interactions between organisms and the environment, ecology, aquatic biology, and genetics.

UTeach Dallas Induction
UTeach Dallas Induction is both an outreach program and an essential part of the UTeach model. After placement in local classrooms, graduates are provided new teacher kits and regular support services for up to three years.
The induction coordinator visits inductees in their schools. Inductees are also provided ongoing professional development, with about one meeting a month. Professional Developments is offered to all of our graduates both brand new and veteran to facilitate cross learning. In addition, many of PDs are led by our experienced alumni.
Currently, over 250 UTeach Dallas graduates are supported through UTeach Dallas Induction. Graduates from other UTeach programs who are teaching in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are also eligible to participate in UTeach Dallas Induction.
Once graduates are experienced teachers and no longer needing induction, UTeach Dallas is happy to recruit former inductees to be one of the approximately 150 mentor teachers working with the program in local schools.
