Scholarships

We understand the cost of graduate school can be expensive. We are constantly looking for grants and scholarships to ease the burden on our graduate students.  New opportunities will be announced here and in our newsletters.

  • Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers  $8,000 -$10,000 in annual funding for up to four years, as well as ongoing training and development opportunities, mentorship from sitting public school educators, and participation in a statewide aspiring teachers’ network. Availanble for Masters’ students also seeking UTeach Dallas certification.
  • Robert Noyce/NSF: Award up to $10,000/year for Juniors, Seniors and Post-Bacs seeking certification in the UTeach Dallas program who must commit to teach science, math, or compurer science in high needs schools for two years for each year of scholarship support.  Noyce grant ended in 2019, we are hoping to start it again in 2024.
  • SME – MAT Scholarship: Scholarships for students with a drive to complete the program, but are hitting financial obstacles and do not qualify for other Scholarships. These funds availablke each year vary based on grants the department has received. Application Link

Additional Teaching Scholarships available:

  • TEACH Grant –  A full-time TEACH Grant recipient may receive four scheduled awards of up to $4,000 each, or a total of $16,000, for the first baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate programs combined minus any reduction due to the sequester.
    • Students must agree to serve as a full-time teacher in a high-need field in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves low-income students. Recipients must teach for at least four academic years within eight calendar years of completing the program of study for which the TEACH grant was received. 75th percentile or higher on college admissions tests or cumulative GPA of at least 3.25. Students interested in TEACH grants should contact the Office of Financial Aid as soon as possible.
  • Veteran’s Benefits – There are several financial aid opportunities available to Veterans who wish to pursue a teaching certification.  Please see the following websites for details:
  • AFCEA Educational Foundation – offers scholarships for pre-service teachers in STEM fields, including degree holders. The AFCEA Educational Foundation is offering 50 scholarships of $5,000 each to students actively pursuing an undergraduate degree, graduate degree or credential/licensure for the purpose of teaching STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) subjects at a U.S. middle or secondary school. Deadline usually is the end of March/beginning of April.
  • Knowles Foundation Teaching Fellowships – Each year, KSTF awards Teaching Fellowships to exceptional young men and women committed to teaching science and mathematics in U.S. high schools. We believe the commitment to teaching merits the deepest respect and support. Our Teaching Fellowship is designed explicitly to meet the needs of teachers from the time they begin working on a teaching credential through the early years of their career. The result of this approach is one of the most comprehensive fellowship programs in the United States. KSTF Teaching Fellowships combine extensive financial and professional support. The total award for each Fellow is valued at nearly $150,000 over the course of the five-year Fellowship. Fellows receive tuition assistance while participating in a teacher credentialing program, monthly stipends, and grants for professional development and teaching materials. 
  • Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics –  $2,000 Math Pre-Service Teacher Scholarship, April deadline.
  • Barbara Lotze Scholarships for Future Teachers –  Up to $2,000 per year for future high school physics teachers. December deadline.
  • Prospective Middle School Mathematics Teacher Course Work Scholarship – $3,000; applicant must be currently completing Junior year in college and be a member of NCTM.  May deadline. 
  • Prospective Secondary Math Teacher Course Work Scholarship – Up to $10,000; applicant must be currently completing Sophomore year in college and be a member of NCTM. May deadline.
  • Other Financial Aid – The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board administers a variety of grants for attending college. You may also qualify for other financial aid, student loans, or scholarships. Always check with UTD’s Office of Financial Aid.
